Costumed Figure Drawing Workshop - Weald & Downland Museum

The course

A one day course of costume figure drawing in the Museum’s Jerwood Gridshell space. Historic costumes will be modelled for both quick sketches and longer studies. Participants will be encouraged to use a variety of materials from pencil and watercolour to charcoal and carbon sticks. This is a rare opportunity to learn about the Museum’s historic costume project work from an artistic perspective with a professional painter who offers hands-on tuition.

The tutor

Gordon Rushmer is a professional painter with works in the collections of Her Majesty the Queen, the House of Lords, National Library of Wales, H.M. Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Nelson Mandela, ICI, The Royal Marines, The Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. He exhibits throughout Europe and the USA and works in both watercolours and oils. His most recent commissions include painting as a war artist in Iraq and Afghanistan for the British and Dutch Marines. His friendly, practical, down-to-earth approach makes his courses both enjoyable and instructive.
