The course

Cane seating is a traditional craft requiring very few tools and is ideal for someone wishing to take up a satisfying and rewarding hobby. Students will learn how to prepare their chair ready for re-caning. You will learn the basic six way pattern, how to identify the various sizes of cane, how to plug and how to do the couching around the edge of the chair seat.

The tutor

Wendy Manser has been working with cane, repairing chairs, bed ends, cribs etc for 35 years. She also replaces rush, seagrass and Danish cord seats on chairs. Her other interests are gardening, country life and trips to Somerset to gather rushes.
