Discover six centuries of traditional rural buildings from South East England saved from destruction, carefully dismantled, conserved and rebuilt. From a tiny 13th century flint cottage through farmhouses and labourers cottages to a pair of timber framed Victorian labourer’s cottages every century is represented. A 16th century Tudor kitchen, a 19th century prefabricated mission church, a 17th century working water mill, farm buildings and early industrial buildings and trade workshops complete the collection.
For a complete contrast visit the multi award winning Downland Gridshell, home to the Jerwood conservation workshop and extensive supporting collections of domestic, agricultural and rural artefacts. Around the site carts, shepherds huts, gypsy caravans and agricultural implement complete the picture.
